After being indicted on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child, Adrian Peterson turned himself over to the police in Houston early Saturday morning.

He was booked at approximately 1 a.m. and released once he posted $15,000 bond.

Here’s a look at his unusually pleasant mug shot:

Peterson has been deactivated by the Minnesota Vikings for their game against the New England Patriots tomorrow.

He admitted to police that he whooped his four-year old son with a switch and that he later felt bad about the severity of the beating, especially because he accidentally struck the child in the testicles.

Once the toddler was returned to his mother, she took him to the doctor, who tended to a number of serious wounds all across the boy’s back, legs and buttocks.

Peterson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, says his client is fully cooperating with the authorities and is a caring father who was just disciplining his son.

“This indictment follows Adrian’s full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son,” reads a statement from Hardin.

It adds:

“It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.”

This incident follows the Ray Rice video that depicts that running back knocking out his then-fiancee cold in the elevator.

Rice has been suspended indefinitely by the league, a punishment few take issue with.

But many football players are siding with Peterson on Twitter, taking the same stance as the star himself: this was nothing more than a father doling out punishment to his child.

“I got a ass whippn at 5 with a switch that’s lasted about 40mins and couldn’t sit for 2days. It’s was all love though. Times have changed,” Tweeted Darnell Docket.

Added former Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram:

“When I was kid I got so many whoopins I can’t even count! I love both my parents, they just wanted me to be the best human possible!”
